“Pierced by The Word”
Scripture: Hebrews 4:12

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Devotion:
Hebrews 4:12 paints a vivid picture of the Word of God. Quick, powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword are the descriptive words used.

“Quick” denotes that it is alive. Pastor Samu-el always says the Word of God is alive. Even though it was written centuries ago, it is still relevant and powerful today. When we need answers, guidance and even chastening – it’s in the Book!

“Powerful, Piercing, and Sharp” - we often call the Word our “Sword”. Ephesians calls it the “Sword of the Spirit”.  A sharp sword will slice though anything. When we apply the Word to our lives, we should be slicing off excuses, pride, hidden agendas, and so much more. This slicing can be uncomfortable; however, it is necessary to draw us closer to God. Just like a surgeon will remove harmful things from the body, so too does the Word remove harmful things from our soul. In doing so, we draw closer to God and we grow in His grace.

Today, allow the Word to operate on you - your thoughts, your actions, your words - let the Sword of the Spirit remove what’s keeping you from getting closer to God.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the Word. Help me to allow it to search my heart and remove anything that keeps me away from You. Let it transform me daily so that I become more like Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
