“The Gift of Service"
Scripture: Ephesians 4:11-12, NIV
 
“So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up”

Devotion:
Today’s Scripture lets us know God has called spiritual leaders such as apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers to help equip His people for works of service, which is ministry. These gifts are not for vainglory, but to prepare and strengthen the people of God and add to the body of Christ. As children of God, we all have the Great Commission to go forth and spread the good news of our risen Savior.

When I think of my Savior, He didn’t come down from glory in purple robes and gold rings that had to be kissed; He came down as a servant of God determined to do the will of His Father and redeem mankind. Jesus showed us the greatest example of what it means to serve humbly at God’s pleasure. Philippians 2:7-8, said, “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Jesus didn’t have to do it, but I am so glad He did. Thank You Jesus! That is why it is so important that we live a life of servitude and purpose so that God can get the glory out of our lives. If we are to be faithful servants of God, we must do what our Savior did; we must serve!

Prayer:
Lord, help us humbly serve with love, compassion, and faithfulness. Give us a heart and a passion to do Your will and walk in obedience to the purpose You have placed in our lives. Amen.
