“The Light Bulb”
Scripture: Psalm 119:130, NLT

“The teaching of your word gives light, so even the simple can understand.”

Devotion:
Being a teacher, I’m charged with presenting information to students with varying learning styles. Most times, the majority of the class understands or comprehends the lessons as I teach them. However, there are times where I have students who have challenges in grasping the content. This causes me to make decisions in the moment to determine where the breakdown occurred, and how to bring them up to the level of learning that is expected. It’s in those moments where the real art of teaching and learning come together. There is no greater feeling, almost no greater feeling, as a teacher when I see a student’s face light up after working to learn and practice content that was challenging to them. The “light bulb” comes on and they are able to soar academically. These situations came to mind as I read today’s text. God’s Word is life and it gives life. Because of its simplistic nature, even those who have challenges comprehending, can understand His Word. In other words, their light bulbs come on. God isn’t in the business of being misunderstood. If He said it, He meant it, and that settles it. How blessed are we to serve a God that is true to His Word. So much so that even a simple person can understand how to live by His Word.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for Your Word. It is simple and easy to understand, so that we can live our best lives for Your Glory. In the moments that we don’t understand, give us wisdom and open our minds and hearts to Your Word. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
