True Courage
 
Scripture: Joshua 1:9 KJV
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
 
Devotion: So many times in my life have I heard this scripture. I’ve seen it on tshirts, necklaces, prayer journals, etc. This scripture is so profound and speaks another one of the many promises of God. Courage is one of those words often spoken, but do we really know what it means. Webster’s defines it as “mental or moral strength to venture, persevere, and withstand danger, fear, or difficulty”. Joshua was reiterating to the children of Israel what God had told them – He was always with them just as He is always with us.

True courage is understanding the above verse and pushing forward in the purpose God has called you no matter what the circumstances or situations. There will be so many obstacles in this life; so many so-called “friends and family” who will try to take advantage of you or even do you harm. The spirit of fear should not reside in us, and we should understand that as we transition to power, God will always be with us. That’s more than anyone can ever say in our lives.
 
Prayer: Lord, thank You for never leaving me. Help me to exercise true courage, knowing that when I need You, You will always be there. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
